In Telegram, bots are linked to the creator's personal account. The person who created the bot via the special bot @BotFather is its owner by default.

Quite often, there is a need to transfer rights to manage a bot. For example, if you hire a third-party specialist or your employee is working with bots, you can temporarily transfer rights to the bot so that another person can work with it without involving you.

Important! If a specialist or employee finishes working with your bots, it is necessary that he/she returns the rights to you. Otherwise, there is a risk of losing the entire subscriber base of the bot and control over it!

Instructions for changing the owner

Important:  After changing the owner, you will no longer be able to control the bot. The new owner will have access to the bot's messages and other data and will even be able to completely delete the bot. Transfer rights only to someone you trust.

Open Telegram, check that the account that owns the bot is selected. Find the @BotFather . Send it the /mybots to see a list of your bots, and select the one you need. Next, click Transfer Ownership , then Choose recipient . Enter the name of the Telegram user to whom you are transferring the rights. Then confirm the transfer by clicking Yes, I am sure, proceed .

To confirm the transfer of the bot from your side, the messenger may ask you to enter the cloud password from your Telegram account.

Then the person you transferred the rights to the bot to will receive a notification. Confirmation of the bot transfer from the receiving party is not required.

Two-step authentication

If you haven't enabled two-step verification for at least a week or have recently logged into your account from this device, Telegram won't allow you to transfer rights.

To enable two-step authentication, click the Set Password in the window that appears.

Create and repeat a password, specify an email for recovery and a password hint.

Enter the code that will be sent to the specified email. Click Confirm . Two-step authentication is enabled. To transfer rights to the bot, you must wait 7 days.
