To run an ad, you will need to create a flow, set up an ad, and then link them together.

Read about how to create a flow in the Flows section.

Creating an ad

  • Select “Messages” as the target of the advertisement.

  • In the “Chat Application”, select “Switch to Messenger”.

  • Set up your audience.
  • Select a placement. We recommend the Facebook* feed.
  • Set up a budget and a schedule.
  • Customize the format, text, and appearance of the ad.
  • Select the page that your flow is linked to. The page in the advertisement has to be the same one that the flow is linked to in BotHelp.

Creating a welcome message

This message will be sent to the user when they click on the ad, it is configured via Facebook. And only after clicking on the button in this message, the main chain set up in BotHelp starts.

  1. Go to the “Message Template” section.
  2. Select “Start a conversation” — “Create a new one”.
  3. Click the Edit button.
  4. Create a new message template.

5. Set up the message.

  • Select the format of the message that the person will receive when clicking on the advertisement. We recommend the “text + picture” format.
  • Write the text of the first message and add a picture.

Linking the ad and the flow

  1. Go to the “Customer Actions” section.
  2. Select the Buttons instead of Quick Answers.
  3. Enter the name of the button.
  4. Select the Send Postback action.
  5. In the “Bot Payload” field, insert the bot payload ID, which you will copy into the flow in BotHelp. Example: whbot-1809702919578
  6. Turn on the preview of the ad and test the flow.
  7. Complete the setup and save the ad.

Setting up a flow for people from Europe

In the settings, you have to select “quick responses” instead of “buttons” and create keyword automation for these quick responses.

Video Tutorial:

Bot ID (bot payload)

Multi-step flows

Go to the flow settings and copy the value from the Reverse Transfer for Facebook Ads* item.

Video tutorial (it shows a different place to take the payload, but the general setup hasn’t changed much).

Sequences

The identifier for the reverse transfer (payload) is located in the sequences settings on the right.

Example: whfunnel-f1579591407494

Testing the flow from the advertisment

Turn on the preview of the ad in your feed, find the ad and test the flow activation.

FAQ

  • What is the difference between Facebook Ads*, standard and multi-step flows? The difference is in the way you connect to ads. Facebook Ads flow connects to ads using a JSON code. Standard and multi-step flows are connected via an identifier.
  • What are Facebook’s* limitations for Europe?

Since December 16, 2020, Facebook Messenger* introduces restrictions on the use of chatbots due to GDPR rules. Here are the main ones.

  • You can’t run a chatbot directly from an ad via JSON. You can use landing pages or keywords. To set up an ad launch, you will have to select quick responses and add a keyword flow launch.
  • You cannot send or receive videos or other files, only images.
  • The flow does not identify the user’s first name, last name, and photo. Therefore, name macros will not work.
  • The buttons (URLs and actions) will not be available on the desktop. Only quick responses will be visible. Everything works on mobile devices (iOS and Android).

These rules apply either to people who are located in the EU, or to all people if any of the community administrators are located in Europe.

  • What to do if an error appears in the welcome message:

— clear your browser cache and cookies;

— switch to incognito mode (Ctrl+Shift+N) to disable all extensions;

— reset the AdsManager settings (located in the menu in the upper right corner). In this case, temporary files and drafts will be deleted, the rest will remain.
