In Telegram, bots are linked to the creator’s personal account. The one who created the bot through the special bot @BotFather is its default owner.
Quite often there is a need to transfer the rights to manage the bot. For example, if you hire an outside specialist or your employee is involved with bots, you can temporarily transfer the rights to the bot so that another person can work with it without involving you.
Important! If a specialist or employee finishes working with your bots, it is necessary that they return the rights to you. Otherwise, there is a risk of losing the bot’s entire people base and control over it!
Instructions for changing the owner
Important. After changing the owner, you will no longer be able to control the bot. The new owner will have access to the bot’s messages and other data, and will even be able to completely delete the bot. Transfer the rights only to someone you trust.
Open Telegram, make sure that the account that owns the bot is selected. Find the bot @BotFather. Send it the /mybots command to see a list of your bots, and select the one you want. Next, click Transfer Ownership, then Choose recipient. Enter the name of the Telegram user to whom you are transferring the rights. Next, confirm the transfer by clicking Yes, I am sure, proceed.
Two-step authentication
If you did not have two-step authentication enabled at least a week ago or you have recently logged in to your account from this device, Telegram will not allow you to transfer your rights.
To enable two-step authentication, click the Set Password button in the window that appears.
Create and repeat the password, enter the recovery email and the password prompt.
Enter the code that will be sent to the specified email address. Click Confirm. Two-step authentication is enabled. To transfer the rights to the bot, you have to wait 7 days.
